City begins project to elevate and electrify New York Central Railroad tracks in lower Manhattan
As part of this project, a railroad bridge is constructed across 10th Avenue (also called "Death Avenue") at the second floor level and another bridge at the fourth floor level of the bakeries.

U.S. Launches Explorer I
National Biscuit Company builds a new modern bakery in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, and the Manhattan bakery is closed.
